On April 3-7th, LFC International Academy SoCal B11/12 Academy led by Coach Francis Davin competed during the Costa Durada Cup—an international youth tournament in Salou, Spain—and returned home as champions!
Teams worldwide were welcomed with an energetic opening ceremony and a fantastic fireworks display. The boys had five matches throughout the week, finishing top in the Silver Bracket of the Boys Under 12 category. Here are the results of their matches:
- Win vs Anorga KKE (Spain): 3-1
- Tie vs Queen’s Park Rangers (United Kingdom): 2-2
- Win vs Fundacio Terrasa FC (Spain): 2-1
- Constanti CD (Spain): 2-1
Winning the tournament was the pinnacle of the boys’ exciting trip to Spain!
The boys and their families also had the incredible privilege of experiencing Spain. They went to Tarragona to explore ancient Roman sites, rode the world’s fifth-fastest roller coaster at Ferrari Land Salou, and enjoyed the food, especially tapas and churros!
Our team also went to Barcelona to witness FC Barcelona take on Real Madrid at the famed El Classico Match, and also watched a Real Madrid vs Villarreal game in Madrid. The weather was perfect, and the team got to hold a practice on the beach.
The families and players had a wonderful time. A parent, Anne Marie, said, “One of the greatest gifts we can give our children is opportunities to travel and see the world. The experience of traveling to Spain to play football and share in lifetime memories with teammates and family are priceless.”
Her son Richie added, “My highlights of the trip were meeting the boys from England, playing soccer with my teammates, the bus rides to the fields… can we do it again?”
“This is a trip that we will cherish forever. We made great memories, met new people, and strengthened friendships that had started long ago, inside and outside the pitch. The players supported each other as I hadn’t seen before, and it felt like they were one! All around, an experience that we will want to repeat!”
